Unit - complete!

So, I finished a unit this weekend. An epic, long haul of painting and modelling and fixing broken off arms, touching up poses and painting bases. I got a unit of 24 pretty much finished. They need a good wash with black ink and snow putting on their bases.

I'm hoping to complete two units of 30. I was tempted to paint them slightly differently by giving them different coloured tabbards, but I gave up on that idea. I decided to paint them all the same, since there's a good possibility of combining them together to make a single larger unit.

So here are my Daughters of the Slaughter. The name gets 9/10 for originality.

In there is my Battle Standard Bearer and full command. The unit champion/Alluress is the one in the helmet. I've got a bit of touching up to do, but they're definitely table top quality for me and I'm quite pleased I had the discipline to sit down and blast out a unit! It'll be nice to field a full proper unit, without unpainted or manky ebay cast offs.

Comments, as always, are welcome!

Storm of magic preperation - Herald of Tzeentch

Salut! Ca va? Bon? Bon! Moi, aaaaaw, je suis c'etait super! Merci merci!

So, la storm d' magique (aka the Harry Potter cash in) is upon us, and I acquired the book on wednesday. It was available for "pre order for delivery on the day of release" from my local gaming store, which meant "buy it today and take it home and promise not to read it until saturday".

So, it looks absolutely bonkers! I've definately got a few ideas how to make a nice, fluffy Slaaneshi list...the lamassu especially, and I've got some ideas for a giant conversion.

But to be honest, I'd had a few ideas floating around about what to do for some count as wizards. One of the main sore spots of mono slaaneshi lists, particularly competitively, is that their magic could use a couple of the main lores from the rule book to help it. So one way of addressing this is by including a single herald of tzeentch. With master of sorcery and spellbreaker he could help keep my augment's/hexes up, whilst dispelling particularly nast spells such as dwellers. It makes sence that some daemons of slaanesh have specialised in magic casting, especially in certain lores (like shadow).

I decided to use the new plastic tzeentch sorceror from the storm of magic as a base. Those chicken legs suited the legs of daemonettes. I decided to make im a little different from the stock plastic model, but changed certain parts to add a slaaneshi tone. A claw from the top of the plastic daemonette banner pole on the staff did this perfectly. The flagellant plastics had a great caged up face that screamed slaanesh, and I decided to add some pony tails. I added two hands from the empire wizards kit (the book and the hand making the horns with a particularly camp dagger). I'm hoping the model is so unique that he'd stand out as a high level wizard, whilst not betraying my slaaneshi theme.

So, here's Noface, Shadow Scholar of Slaanesh (suggestion for better names welcome).

Also, here's another Soulcrusher conversion. I'm particularly fond of her whopping scythe hammer thing.

Keep following guys.

Herald of Slaanesh

S'up fellow daemonfiddlers, how are we all today?

I've got a nice update for you all, my herald on foot. I absolutely love this model (far nice than dechala!). He was an utter blast to paint too. He's got so much wargear - rings, pouches, swords, scrolls - lots to keep me busy.

I've yet to give him a wash, so that should bring some details out.

So here's my vintage herald. He has yet to be named, though...

Lemme know if you like!

WHIP battle standard bearer

Allo fellow underlings, how are we all? I've quickly uploaded a Wip of my battle standard.

I aimed for something along the lines of the eye of terror (if slaanesh is a child of the space elves debauchery, the eye of terror was the placenta blurgh!). With a huge eye of sauron style peeper in the centre ive tried to create a creepy battle standard.

In company, I call this piece "the birth". Amongst close friends I call it a chronic pain in the arse!

I've decided to give up painting forever after this piece, and I'm going to take up knitting.

I may not be joking.

The eternal call of slaanesh is..."NEED MOAR WIPS!!!"

Ha haaaaa....y' geddit?

Ok, I'll leave humour to people who are paid for it, like "Russel Brand".

Here are some more WIPs from my tabletop. I'm cracking on nicely now and had these done for a couple of days, so should put them up now before I get any further with them.

Here's my battle standard bearer:

(S)he's The Masque with a simple arm swap for her twirly baton thing for a daemonette's standard arm. The banner is a dark elf banner cut off and attatched to the banner pole, and then the top is a banner top again from the plastic daemonette kit.

Simple, striking, effective. Bish bash bosh. Now to give it a paint job to match it.

Next is my herald/squad champion.

I've given her 4 arms, just like a keeper of secrets. I wanted her to look like she's been gifted to the cusp of greater daemonhood. The claws arm less functional, but provide a sinister wing imagery, like a fallen angel. I've put two scrolls on there too to represent the wizard upgrade. The two normal arms are just from the dark eldar wych kits, and represent a torment blade. The whip is just a common symbol across the slaanesh list and represents this herald as a bit of a kinky bitch.

And finally, a (mostly) painted seeker.

Hope you enjoy this miscellaneous post, there will be more to come!

WIP Slaanesh herald on Chariot

Waddup? It's been a few days and I've slacked off, but I find when I start writing on here I'm absorbed for a good hour or so and I don't end up doing any painting! Bad Simon bad!

But then again, if I'm off painting I'm not on here, and my fellow bloggers are being left in the lurch. Sinister cycle.

So here are some photos of my models. Before I begin, I want to set the tone for my work. I'm a hobbyist, I love warhammer, I love the background. I love gaming, I love rolling dice and having a great experience at the tabletop, regardless of the end result.

I am a reasonable general. I am not a great painter. I'm a reasonably skilled modeller. I pride my armies on being themed and a coherent table top quality, with conversions that have a lot of character. I quite often field models that are "substandard" because they look cool. And hey - if you can't play with models you like, what sort of hobby is it?

So, with that said, here is the start of my army.

First of all, I thought I'd put my pride and joy up. My herald on a chariot. Probably not the strongest choice in my army, but a pure slaanesh army doesn't have many options for a centrepiece model. At lower points levels, I'd need something at hero level that had a bit of punch behind it. The chariot, I felt, was a good choice. Or so I hope!

This is an idea I've had floating around for a while. About 3 years ago I'd bought 2 high elf chariots from a bits service site. I was intending to make a tzeentch chariot but, like many ideas, I never got round to it, and chariot parts ended up in my bitz box.

So, cue last year, when I began my 40k slaanesh army when the new plastics came out. I'd put the majority of the chariot together, but again, never finished it off.

Third time lucky! With my newly acquired dark eldar bitz (seriously, raiders come with so much bling!) I set about making my chariot. I added the flag because, well, I'm really nostalgic. I remember getting my first ever taste of warhammer in 1996, when I picked up a free pamphlet in meadowhall. I remember the bright colours, the huge armies and models with HUGE banners! And warhammer's just not warhammer without some obscenely large flags! The plastic flag has a crescent symbol which can be found all around daemonette models, so fit perfectly.

I added the chain (with much chagrin and several choice, colourful words) just to complete the model, as it made no sense that two famously freedom seeking creatures would just ride around with a chariot on their back without some guidance.

By the time you read this, it will have been sprayed and majority painted. Let me know what you think.
