Herdstone WIP

So, here's what's been taking up my time this week. This is the second attempt - the first melted abit under spray paint (I was aiming for the paint to melt it wabit...but not to the point it actually did!). So this is my herdstone, which needed basecoating manually (which I'm halfway through) and PVA'd up.

Favourite part, the dog with a bone

It's actually a bit taller than I expected - It fully covers a giant and ghorgon! The chaos star kind of crumbled when I cut it too, so hopefully it may look a bit better when it's fully painted. Or it may not...

I did a bit of research to make sure how bit is acceptable for a herdstone and generally a CD base is what most people go for. I'm quite happy with it so far, let me know what you guys think!

3 Wise Beasts - my plastic lore of beast/wild shamen

Oh hai guyz! I've got a few updates for today from my work this week. I'm not going to lie, I've not got much done , but here's some older...old and new stuff, all together for completeness.

You may have seen my first shamen, the guy with the huge ramskull is my "lead" shamen, by the fact he's my first and has the biggest head dress. He was originally my Mordheim shamen and has the body of the old style plastic beastmen gors from the combo beastmen/ ungor kit. His style was the "base" for all my other shamen.

The other two are from the newer updated gor kit. One is inspired by the "acid blood" mordheim spell from the chaos lore, stating the mage cuts his palm and a gout of steaming gore hits his enemies. I figure that the beast magics are heavily influenced by blood letting and, so I modelled his with his palm cut and a bloodied knife, mid chant. I gave him a greenstuff mask which, to be honest, I'm not 100% happy with.

The final one I threw together yesterday. I started influenced by the shamen picture where a mage is infront of a huge flame. Well, after a wee bit of playing, my final model was totally different. He's marching forward, again with an open hand (the best way, apart from pointing, to signify a magic caster!) mid cantrip, with his bray staff pointing forward at his enemy.

I've put him slightly forward on his base to make him  stand out when he's in the herd. He still needs some greenstuffing...basing...painting...playing games with...but other than that he's done!

Gorash Sowbane - Wargor BSB

So, here in the UK I've had most of the day off with the strikes. So I've been doing uni work for most of the day, but managed to get a little bit of painting done. The Ungors I spectacularly didn't finish within an hour - An hour later I've got the majority of four colours on them! Go me. Soon I'll begin taking time over each one to make them presentable - I'm just rubbish at painting more than one model!

But I did go back and touch up (hurhurur) my BSB. Here he is - my wargor Gorash Sowbane, Bearer of the Vision.

Nothing much to say about this model - I gave a few extra drybrushes ontop of the fur to make him stand out. I've still got the other side of the standard to paint the same design on (I'll do it one day, seriously). Gorash is an inside joke from when I tried D&D once - Gorash was a lesbian half-orc female barbarian who I crafted (Gor and gash put together, hilarity!). Although the regular players hated her - she also carried the entire gang through about 4 sessions by running straight in and hitting stuff in the face with a heavy axe. Infact he put down a (aparently alluring) female boss in one gory critical hit. I ended up being unable to commit every week due to work commitments, but they carried Gorash on as a NPC and though they tried to kill her - she wouldn't go down. I renamed a mordheim bestigor Gorash Sowbane, and now I've renamed this character - Gorash the third. I've got a bit of fiction wrtten up too wich I'll add one day in the future.

Oh, and a cheeky chappy on Warseer asked for a comparison shot of my dark wizard next to other gors - well, here you go!

He doesn't shape up too bad does he?

Oh, and one of my elite front rankers, lookign rather vexed and suprised he took a quiver to the chest. And rightly so.

Great Bray Shamen of Shadow magic (and a sneak peek)

Well it was a...interesting model to paint, but here's my great shamen, he who does not yet have a name!

I The model is a limited edition games day sculpt for a chaos sorceror which recieved...mixed feelings in the chaos camps. I think he's a brilliant model, and fills the niche I needed him to - a Great Shamen who stood out from his fellow shamen as a Lord choice. He's not entirely beastman, but shares enough beastman characteristics to get by.

His background is that he was a prominant wizard in the empire, who suddenly FOR WHATEVER REASON started warping into a beastman. He's still between the two, but has managed to gather followers (due to his shamenistic skills, and beastman followers who were outcast albinos already). I know, it's rare for beastmen to respect turnskins (humans who turn to beastmen) but I think my backgrounds fairly watertight.

I'll work out some more serious background later, but now just enjoy the pics!

I've also got a sneak peak of my battle standard, if you care to whet your apetites. I honestly think this BSB is the best painted model I'll have ever done.

More soon!

Bray shamen with Lore of Breasts

*Warning - title may appear mispelt*

Here's a fully plastic shamen who will have lore of beasts. I've had this cheeky chappy converted for a few years, waiting for use in mordheim. Ha! Take that mordheim, Fantasy got in first.

He's a real mishmash, a bloodletter hand, a cut down banner pole, a troll skull, a 40k chaos space marine open book and some kroot bits, all melded together with copious ammounts of greenstuff. I put him rather far forward on his base so he looked rather dominant and characterish, whilst allowing him a bit of space to be dynamic without interfering with his fellow rank and files.

His skull helm I tried to paint so it looked like it had freshly been flensed so still had a pinky gore on it. I'm a bit annoyed that I dropped him and his helmet came off, and I couldnt reglue him so he didnt have big gaps above the eyes.

I think he looks suitably wizardish. I hope you all agree! He also needs a name, so suggestions are welcome!

Azazel, Prince of Damnation...

...or should I say, patron saint of cursing "damnation!" at a particular chunk of metal.

Cheesus Cripes, this was a labour of love, without the love. So, a labour. A long, hard damn labour.

Everyone's favourite special character daemon prince of slaanesh (by purely being the "only" one) has been unlovingly created by myself. There's a story behind this so-and-so, so please allow me to vent before I press on with my out of focus photos of my kitchen, that sometimes include war toys in the foreground.

This model seems to go for silly money on eBay. Which is weird. I like him, I've seriously got a hard on for quirky old minis that games workshop made aeons ago. This cheeky chappy generally goes for about £40, and a new plastic daemon prince goes for £20.

I picked him up from a trader for just over a tenner. Bargain. He needed stripping and was missing a tail, but so what?

So he came with two right wings. The photo was made so it looked like he had two wings either side, but one was just back to front. So I got a bit of a refund (I decided I'd rather keep the majority of a good model who just needed stripping) and search for a spare wing on ebay.

Well, a month or so passed, with no luck, so I bit the bullet and bought great eagle wings from GW themselves - they were pretty much the same ones and just needed some work to make fit on Azazel's back. Alot of damn work. Alot of greenstuffing, cutting, filing and drilling and 3 pins worth (two on both wings and one between the two wing holding them together) and they were fixed in. Phew.

The sword was a bit piddly, so I decided to give him one of the swords from the plastic daemon prince. I also put the top of a slaanesh  icon on the hilt, to extend it and also make it a weapon befitting Slaanesh's right hand.

Finally, with the legs I was happy to angle the left foot so the back leg was in contact with the base. It gives the model more support, and makes him look like he's moving more naturally than the prancy version if hes stood upright. I also put a spare loincloth from the daemon prince kit to cover up his missing tail (and Azazel's particularly pert man-bottom.

So, without further ado, here's some piccielicks.

He still needs a bit of greenstuffing on his back to make the joint betwixt the wings less noticeable, but other than that he's a done deal.

And if I never hear the name "Azazel" again it'll be too soon.

In game...I dunno what to do with him! I'll perhaps use him a generic daemon prince, with no mark of slaanesh (shocking!) and wings (obv), unnatural swiftness (I7 WS8 always strike first with rerolls? Yummy) and Immortal Fury (St5 rerolling to wounds). All this for 375 points. He then gets a tad expensive when you start adding wizard levels to him...so I'd probably just use him as a monstrous battering ram.

Other possible alternative were using him as a bloodthirster, and adapting his old rules for campaign games (which can be found here: http://www.angelfire.com/co4/thedarkgods/characters.pdf).

So let me know what you all think! I've also editted the settings so anyone can comment, so post away!

Story corner - Come meet Devilfingers

Well hello again. Heres a bit of fluff about my Tzeentch Herald, Devilfingers. I got a bit fascinated with this character and came up with an interesting story about his background. I'm hoping to get quite a bit of background for all my units. This is particularly trecherous! I hope you enjoy...

Devilfingers, The Turncloak, Traitorkin

Devilfingers, in the years past, was one of Tzeentch’s favoured heralds. Veteran of hundreds of incursions, he was often at the forefront of legions of mutating horrors, his hands weaving iridescent destruction. The only thing that rivalled his tactical acumen was his thirst for forbidden knowledge, a fire burning within him that his patron was more than willing to stoke.
Then wheels were put in motion that would change everything for Devilfingers. He became besotted with finding  a sacred tomb of magic, lost aeons ago in the great sundering. The Compendium of Eldraneum held ancient lores long lost to Daemon kind, and held information about banishment rituals and daemonic binding. Its retrieval would raise Devilfingers to much higher standing, both denying its knowledge to mortal kind and excelling his own arcane knowledge. Success would perhaps be enough to ascend himself to greater daemonhood.
His forces were already in alliance with another great Daemonic Host, led by the Bloodthirster Gra’uhl’Bak Bleakblade. Calling a meeting of the host’s leaders it did not take much swaying to convince the Bleakblade to find this tomb and destroy it. However, after leaving the bloodthirster’s council, another approached Devilfingers. Ilzharod, Excess-General of the 666th Legion and highest ranking follower of the Pleasure God, had supported Devilfingers’ plans in front of the mighty bloodthirster. He knew of the book Devilfingers had mentioned, and knew he intended to take the tomb as his own. He would support Devilfingers on one condition – that at the end of the campaign, the Bloodthirster must fall on the field of battle.
Days later, Ilzharod sealed their pact and gifted Devilfinger the Rending Claw, a powerful staff to channel magic with a claw taken from one of his favoured daemonic concubine’s.  He also offered him a warning about the book – only by placing part of one’s essence into the book would it ever be opened, and once a word in the book was read, it would disappear from the pages forever.
This played heavily on Devilfinger’s mind over the following weeks. As they drew closer to the temple the book was held in, his thoughts drew darker. Should he acquire the book, he had the choice of not reading it and sacrificing it’s power, or Tzeentch would consume him entirely to retrieve the knowledge. It was too difficult a choice, for whatever he chose the arduous journey would all be in vain.
Then, on the eve of battle, Ilzharod came to Devilfinger again. He offered him Slaanesh’s patronage, and his protection, should he wish it. He could keep the book, and all its contents, should he pledge fealty to the Dark Prince. He then gifted him a helm, a mask of wrought iron on the outside, but infused with intricate runes within. His helm would keep the contents of Devilfingers’ mind safe from Tzeentch.
Devilfinger would not commit to any deal. He had too much to think of. Battle was joined outside the High Elf sacred temple which held the compendium. He fought with much more fervour and vigour those usual, weeks of angst taking form in his magical incantations. Eventually, they fought their way to the temple, the high elves broken and defeated. The Bleakblade, injured by a thousand sword cuts, strode towards the temple to destroy the Compendium. Devilfingers own pink horrors twitched and gibbered, unwilling to allow the beast destroy the book. Devilfingers made his choice.
He cast a mighty hex on the bloodthirster, his words cracking it’s obsidian armour where it stood. Gra’Uhl’Bak roared at the treachery, and turned as dozens of balefire bolts tore into him from the regiment of pink horrors at Devilfingers back. Unprotected from the magical torrent, the mighty bloodthirster soon succumbed and fell to his knees.
Devilfingers did not celebrate, but instead donned his new helm.
This signal was all the 666th Legion needed. Hoards of daemonettes leaped upon the Horror’s, tearing and gouging their way through their ranks with their razor sharp claws. Gibbering and putrid screaming echoed around as Devilfingers strode into the temple to retrieve the knowledge within.
From then on, Devilfingers had joined the ranks of the 666th Legion. He permanently wears his facemask, for fear that if he was to take it off Tzeentch would descend to consume all his essence and retrieve the ancient knowledge within his mind. An outcast for his treachery even within Slaaensh’s armies, he still strives to learn even more arcane knowledge and fuel his ascent through the ranks.

It’s unknown how far the deceit goes. One would think Tzeentch would have realised such a treachery before it had occurred, or put alternate plans in motion should such an event take place. Perhaps he knew all along, or it was his indeed his own plan. It is not often at all a follower of a Chaos power converts from the worship of one to another. However, one thing is for certain, Tzeentch still has a plan for Devilfingers.  Whether this bodes well or ill for Devilfingers only time will tell, but Tzeentch has always been willing to play the long game.

In game, he counts as a herald of tzeentch, with loremaster (shadow or life) and spellbreaker.

Storm of magic preperation - Herald of Tzeentch

Salut! Ca va? Bon? Bon! Moi, aaaaaw, je suis c'etait super! Merci merci!

So, la storm d' magique (aka the Harry Potter cash in) is upon us, and I acquired the book on wednesday. It was available for "pre order for delivery on the day of release" from my local gaming store, which meant "buy it today and take it home and promise not to read it until saturday".

So, it looks absolutely bonkers! I've definately got a few ideas how to make a nice, fluffy Slaaneshi list...the lamassu especially, and I've got some ideas for a giant conversion.

But to be honest, I'd had a few ideas floating around about what to do for some count as wizards. One of the main sore spots of mono slaaneshi lists, particularly competitively, is that their magic could use a couple of the main lores from the rule book to help it. So one way of addressing this is by including a single herald of tzeentch. With master of sorcery and spellbreaker he could help keep my augment's/hexes up, whilst dispelling particularly nast spells such as dwellers. It makes sence that some daemons of slaanesh have specialised in magic casting, especially in certain lores (like shadow).

I decided to use the new plastic tzeentch sorceror from the storm of magic as a base. Those chicken legs suited the legs of daemonettes. I decided to make im a little different from the stock plastic model, but changed certain parts to add a slaaneshi tone. A claw from the top of the plastic daemonette banner pole on the staff did this perfectly. The flagellant plastics had a great caged up face that screamed slaanesh, and I decided to add some pony tails. I added two hands from the empire wizards kit (the book and the hand making the horns with a particularly camp dagger). I'm hoping the model is so unique that he'd stand out as a high level wizard, whilst not betraying my slaaneshi theme.

So, here's Noface, Shadow Scholar of Slaanesh (suggestion for better names welcome).

Also, here's another Soulcrusher conversion. I'm particularly fond of her whopping scythe hammer thing.

Keep following guys.

Herald of Slaanesh

S'up fellow daemonfiddlers, how are we all today?

I've got a nice update for you all, my herald on foot. I absolutely love this model (far nice than dechala!). He was an utter blast to paint too. He's got so much wargear - rings, pouches, swords, scrolls - lots to keep me busy.

I've yet to give him a wash, so that should bring some details out.

So here's my vintage herald. He has yet to be named, though...
